Marion Hollins hired the doctor. Then she told him where the 16th had to go.

Cypress Point sits on 17-Mile Drive like it has always been there. MacKenzie and Hunter opened it in 1929 — inland pines, then the dunes, then the Pacific on 15, 16, and 17. The 16th was drawn as a short par 4. Hollins, who ran Del Monte Properties and played to scratch, insisted on the carry over the ocean. MacKenzie listened. Porky Oliver later took 16 strokes on it in the Crosby. The green on the rock in our photographs is that hole. You do not need a sunset. The cypress and the kelp do the work.
